4+ hour, 2+ min ago (1046+ words) Nicole Winfield And Abby Sewell ISTANBUL " Pope Leo XIV wrapped up his visit to Turkey on Sunday before heading to Lebanon, where he hoped to bring a message of hope to its long-suffering people and bolster a crucial Christian community in the Middle East. Leo had two key appointments in Istanbul before flying to Beirut: a prayer at the Armenian Apostolic Cathedral and a divine liturgy with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, spiritual leader of the world's Orthodox Christians, whose invitation to commemorate an important Christian anniversary was the impetus for Leo's visit. Leo processed into the Armenian cathedral in a cloud of incense as a male choir chanted. He praised the "courageous Christian witness of the Armenian people throughout history, often amid tragic circumstances." It was a reference to the World War I-era slaughter of Armenians by Ottoman Turks. Pope Francis…...

Trump says Venezuela's airspace should be viewed as closed. It's not clear what that means

8+ hour, 42+ min ago (353+ words) WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. " President Donald Trump on Saturday said that the airspace "above and surrounding" Venezuela should be considered as "closed in its entirety," an assertion that raised more questions about the U.S. pressure on Venezuelan leader Nicol's Maduro. The Republican president addressed his call for an aerial blockade to "Airlines, Pilots, Drug Dealers, and Human Traffickers," rather than to Maduro. International airlines last week began to cancel flights to Venezuela after the Federal Aviation Administration told pilots to be cautious flying around the country because of heightened military activity. Trump's administration has sought to ratchet up pressure on Maduro. The U.S. government does not view Maduro as the legitimate leader of the oil-rich but increasingly impoverished South American nation and he faces charges of narcoterrorism in the U.S. U.S. forces have conducted bomber flights near Venezuela and the USS Gerald R.
