Parkersburg South falls to Woodrow Wilson in Regional volleyball action

(WTAP) - The Parkersburg South Lady Patriots traveled to Beckley Monday night to take on Woodrow Wilson for a spot in the State tournament on Monday night. South came into the match-up as the #7 seed, while Woodrow was the #3 seed. It was a tight match throughout as both teams gave it their all to secure a spot in states. The Flying Eagles took the first set 25-19. The Lady Patriots fought back to take the second set 25-23. The third set was a tight one, but Woodrow would take one step closer to clinching their place in states. In a tight fourth set, Woodrow would be able to pull it out and take down the Lady Patriots 3 sets to 1 set. The Flying Eagles have now booked their spot into the State tournament. (WTAP) - In an ultra-rare appearance two Mountain East teams played each other at the Erickson All-Sports Facility, home of the Parkersburg South Patriots. Two former Patriots, freshman RB Eli Bartley and redshirt-senior DB Brandon Penn, play for Glenville State and were on the sidelines for today's game. Both teams came into this game with 5-4 records. Wheeling defeated Glenville State 38-35 in a close game that featured a second-half comeback attempt by the Pioneers. Glenville State trailed 28-7 in the second half before mounting their rally. Pioneers quarterback Anthony Garrett found Jeremiah King out of the backfield for a touchdown to begin the comeback. On the Cardinals' next possession, quarterback Ade Olanegan connected with Steven Mitchell on a quick pass. Mitchell gained yardage before stepping out of bounds. Cliff Hecker, coordinator for the Mid-Ohio Valley Toys for Tots, reported a surge in applications within the first five days of the application period. "Our applications opened on November 1st," Hecker said. "In our first five days, we had almost double what we typically get for family applications. In five days, we had 562 applications of families. "The City of Parkersburg will reimburse you for up to $200 for a security camera that is placed on your residence and facing a public space," said Chris Rynd, development projects administrator for the city. According to the SNI's website, the cameras are intended to promote crime awareness and prevention, deter criminal activity, and assist local law enforcement in investigations.
